Great days brewing today! I brewed a special Harvest Ale, with 100% of the hops coming from my garden here in Dunedin, picked yesterday afternoon. This lot here was one of three hop additions added throughout the brew... The aroma was amazing both during the brew and when we were picking the hops yesterday. So zingy!
Continuing our 'World Tour' of seasonal limited releases, we move from Belgium to Germany for a chance to soak up the tail end of those summer rays with a tart and refreshing 'Berliner Weisse'.
This old-school traditional style employs a unique 'sour mash' technique in the brewhouse, making it drier and crisper than your standard wheat beer, with a slight citrus-like zing. In its hey day of the 1800s this beer style was brewed by over 700 breweries in Berlin alone, seen as the number one way to stay quenched on a summers day.
Traditionally served with a dash of raspberry juice, our raspberry infused version is now on tap at The Bund and Ombrellos, and the 'standard' release on the rigger station at Dunedin Malt House. Will be popping up in a couple more places soon so keep an eye out!
It's so nice to have some sun and warmth back after yesterday's little 'winter scare' here in Dunedin! Must be about time for a refreshing drop - head on down to Ombrellos Kitchen and Bar to taste some of our current seasonal release, a Belgian Style Farmhouse Saison. Crisp and refreshing but still with that lovely belgian charachter from the specialised Saison yeast strain. And if you are planning a trip to the beach you can also fill up riggers of it at the Dunedin Malt House on Hillside Road for takeaway. Cheers!
